De Halloween, calabazas y otras tradiciones / About Halloween, pumpkins and other traditions

www.fondos7.net
Good Monday everybody! 90% of the blogs I’m subscribed to are Northamerican and there it’s time of pumpkins and getting ready different crafts, quilts, recipes, etc. related with Halloween. Carved pumpkins, pumpkin crafts and Halloween are entirely Anglo-Saxon traditions which have been slowly initiated in Spain (I don’t know about other countries but I guess it’ll have happened the same) despite of those Anglo-Saxon traditions nothing have to do with our culture, traditions and customs.

Here in Spain pumpkins are usually eaten simply baked and it can be bought in vegetable/fruit shops or in bakeries but they are neither carved or decorated with candles nor used in decorations. Related with Halloween, in the Anglo-Saxon countries it is a festive day, a completely different tradition in the Spanish traditions. In my country 1st November is “All Saints Day” a feast day dedicated to remember the loved ones who passed away bringing them flowers to the cemetery and praying for them so far from being a festive day it’s a day to think of and remember. But what has happened in Spain? Very easy. The cemetery, the flowers, the thoughts about and the memories of the loved ones aren’t business, it doesn’t mean an economic benefit (except for the flower shops) and it is organising Halloween parties, the sale and rent of Halloween costumes, etc. so people here in my country celebrates a tradition which simply is not ours.

I find quite sad that the only one day in the year that a person can dedicate to remember (at least for some hours) to the loved ones prefers to follow a foreign custom. I’m not against neither pumpkins (I loooove baked pumpkin) nor Halloween (although I’ve never celebrated it) but I hope that the countries with different traditions from the Anglo-Saxon ones learn to defend ours and keep them. Hugs for all!

Decoración: Laura Ashley y un regalito / Home Decor: Laura Ashley and a little present

Good morning! We start this wednesday with something different that I hope you like as much as I do. Maaaany years ago I knew about Laura Ashley brand but only of clothes, I didn't know they also had a decor department and then I saw, in another blog, a link to the catalogue and saw so many decor elements that could be seen, buy or where you could get so many ideas that I enjoy to see a lot. It's a long catalogue, but although you wouldn't like to see it all I know you'll like it due to the style and good taste it has. Click on the link and if you like home decor you're going to enjoy every page. I haven't received any compensation for recommending you this catalogue, I discovered it in a web and just wanted to share it with you. Ah! and I have also thought in those of you who are not interested in home decor, in the second link you have an autumn print for you to print and frame if you like. Hugs!

Esos bañadores masculinos…..¡y femeninos! / Those men swimsuits…..and women’s!

Good morning, good Monday and happy autumn! Who of you hasn’t seen this summer the kind of men swimsuits that you can see in the first photograph below? Raise your haaaaands, that I’m sure this summer you have seen more than one dressed in these swimsuits in the beach or in the pool. But the reason for writing this post is not the swimsuit itself but the age of the ones wearing them, there, there is the heart of the matter.

My personal opinion about men and women swimsuits (although about the women’s I’m refering to the bikinis) there’s always an age since the discretion should come first. Men swimsuits, like the one in the photograph above, are more suitable for sportmen than for men in their fifty-something or sixty-something….or even older men insisting on wearing them. Gentlemen, women are not the only ones to whom the gravity concerns it concerns to you too and all smooth parts of the body drop down. Wouldn’t you feel a little more comfy wearing another kind of swimsuits like the one below, for example?

www.modaellos.com
Me gustaría saber vuestras opiniones. Un abrazoo

and incidentally it wouldn’t be so evidente how unrewarding Mother Nature can become after each one’s birthday. And it happens the same in the women’s side related to bikinis. I think there is an age when one woman can wear them and an age from which it’d be better not to wear them for the same reason than the men: gravity and the age. What do you think? Do yo agree? You don’t? I’d like to read your opinions. Hugs!!

Tutorial: Joyero reciclado / Recycled jewelry stand

www.epbot.com

Good morning and good tutorial friday! today is the first day of tutorials from other people or webs which I find daily in the blogosphere and which I find curious and/or easy to make. Today's tutorial is a jewelry stand recycled from three plastic bottles made by epbot.com. Apart from making it as it's showed in the tutorial I suggest you to also spraypaint it giving it a different touch or even making some decoupage. Click in the link, enjoy making it and have a nice weekend. Hugs!

How much personal information can be given in a blog?

www.diarioresponsable.com

Good morning and good Wednesday everybody!. I daily read different blogs of people from different countries and I like reading what they tell about their lives and about their countries because that information allows me to know other cultures and ways of living but, in my opinion, privacy and safety have always priority. I remember once reading a European blog (I tactfully won’t say the country) in which the blogger was giving so much information about herself that I was amazed. She said she was living in a small village of her country (she gave all names and details), photographs or the street where she was living, photographs of her home and she even told that, due to her husband’s job, she spent most of the time alone at home. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. The blog I refer is about sewing and embroidery. These blogs are usually visited by women and I'm convinced of any woman is going to make the mistake of going to that country and do any harm to the lady I’m writing about but the truth is such amount of information verges on the carelessness. It’s clear that we all are free to give to the blogosphere as many or as few personal information as we consider appropiate but although each of us can have their own view about this there is the question: how much personal information can anyone give in a blog? What do you think?. Hugs!!

Empecemos un nuevo curso/ Let's start a new year

megustalaclasedereligion.blogspot.com
Buenos díaas y buen lunes! ¿Qué tal el fin de semana? Espero que hayáis pasado un finde agradable.

Good morning and good Monday! How about your weekend? I hope you’ve had a nice one.

Valencian children (I don’t know about other cities) started the new school year last week. Starting a new school year always means changes, that feeling of new (new books, new teacher, new school mates, etc.). And although you people who read me are adults and we aren’t starting a new school year I think a good idea to pass on that feeling to the blog. I daily receive mails, via mi hotmail list or via the blogs I check or I’m suscribed, many tutorials, curious ideas, suggestions, videos, etc. that I usually resend to the rest of my hotmail list and from now on I’ll share them with you too. The truth is that each day I wonder of all creativity and inventiveness that I find in the blogosphere, amazing!. I’ll keep on posting Monday, Wednesday and Friday (as I’m doing since the end of April when I started this blog) and Fridays will probably be a fixed day for Tutorials but from now on most of them will be from other people (I’ll post my own tutorials too but not every week). About Mondays and Wednesdays, it’ll change: a topic, a song, something curious for you to see or read, etc. You’ll see the so beautiful things I’m compiling to share them with you, I think you’ll like it too. Ah! two more things: if you want to make a suggestions or comment of anything you'd like to see here or something that would be a good idea to change you know that below you've got Comments and I'd love to read them and the second thing is that if you'd like to subscribe to the blog for not missing any post you know you can do it typing your mail in "Follow by mail" that you can see on the right. Hugs!

Tutorial: Broche "flor quemada" / "Burnt flower" brooch

Good morniiing! And here is friday, ahead you've got the weekend to enjoy the last days of summer, enjoy yourselves!. Here you have a tutorial that I call of "burned flowers".

Three sizes for the flower, 100% polyester fabric, a candle, thread, needle, safety pin and some beads to sew in the center.

Print the photograph of the flower (post from last friday 6th Sept) and enlarge/reduce it to get the three sizes of the flower. Cut two flowers each size from the fabric (it has to be 100% polyester if not it wouldn't burn properly) to burn the edges. Sew all the flowers (more or less as you can see by the photograph) and sew some beads in the centre and a safety pin behind it.

As a suggestion the three flowers you can see are made with some old ties, another way to recycle something old into something pretty, don't you think so?. A hug for all!

Good morning and good friday to all! I hope you've had a nice week and enjoy the weekend. Today I've been having a look to the "Traffic" part of the blog and it always surprises me that people from countries so far from Spain like China could have had a look to my blog. This is the summary of nationalities and visits, I love it!: Spain 56, USA 48, Germany 5, Serbia 4, Mexico 3, Colombia 2, China 1, Greece 1, Ucrania 1 and Venezuela 1.

And coming back to friday tutorials here you have the first of September although more than a tutorial it's a little idea to embellish a bag.

You only need a plain bag, a piece of jeans, needle and thread.

Print the photograph of the flower you can see below and trace it on the jeans fabric about 8 times (depending on the big you want it). Cut out the flowers. In one of them mark the middle point of it by folding it in the middle and then again in the middle marking it with a pen and open it. Fold the seven flowers left first folding in the middle and then again in the middle sewing the corner of the triangle you have now to the point marked in the first flower. You sew them all and then you'll have this flower just using some old jeans embellishing a plain bag. I hope you like the idea and give it a try for a bag, for a t-shirt, a towel, a sweater, etc etc for anything you like. A hug for all!

Adiós vacaciones de verano.....Hola blog! / The end of summer holidays.....Hello blog!

Good morning and good Monday to all!. As the song said: The end of the summer arrived……. Yes, the end of the summer holidays arrived (at least for me) and most of us have come back to work, to the usual routine. Well, welcome back to the ones coming back (we’re lucky to have a place to go on holidays –trip, holidays house, apartment, etc..- and a place to come back –home, job, etc..- and good holidays to the ones starting them in September, good month, quieter and with cheaper holiday trips as September is not high season prices so good advantages too.

In Valencia it seems that summer has already ended. Since Monday 26th August it’s raining almost all the time and temperatures have dropped about 10º. In fact on Thursday 29th I read in the newspaper that on Wednesday 28th at 7 p.m. we got the lowest temperature (19.2º) for that day since 1.986!!. A day at the end of August at seven o’clock in the evening, which is one of the hottest hours of the day, we got only 19º, very strange but on saturday the heat came back and the sun too, yupiii, my dear sun. I love sunbathing, it gives me energy and at the same time it relaxes me sooo much sunbathing in the beach or pool which I have done many many times during this summer holidays.

And I also did a quick trip outside Valencia. If you have a look at Wednesdays posts on the 21st and 28th you’ll see there is a summer quiz on trying to guess which city I have visited during this holidays. The winner will have the opportunity to write a post, whichever topic you prefer, and I’ll post it here as I’ll receive it. There’s still time to participate in the summer quiz as it’ll be on next 4th Sept and the last day will be 11th Sept. Come on, participate, it’s veeeery easy!!. A summer hug to all!!
