Valencia ya huele a otoño y novedades en el blog para Noviembre y Diciembre /Valencia already smells like autumn and news in the blog for November and December‏

Good morning and good Monday to all! For some days now Valencia has already got that autumnal look that I was already seeing in other blogs. I have to say that I was a little bit jealous seeing those photographs of changing colours trees, those hot soups recipes, those coffee recipes (lovely!) or hot cocoa (this is even lovelier! I have a chocolate addiction jajaja). Here temperatures have already started to drop (not much as at middays we still are over 20ºC!) but by night we get around 10ºC which for Valencia is almost cold weather.

When cold weather starts it seems more tempting to stay at home simply resting on the sofa watching a film, or reading a good book, or sharing meals and time with friends at home or why not? crafting. About crafting in this blog I have planned for these months of November and December some tutorials that I think will be interesting for both people who like Christmas and for the ones who don’t like it or simply don’t celebrate it. Once a week (either Monday or either Wednesday) you’ll have two No-christmas tutorials and on Fridays, during these two months, the two tutorials will be dedicated to Christmas. I hope you’ll like all of them, stay tuned because next wednesday we’ll follow with the non Christmas tutorials. And today an extra gift, as Nestlé chocolates "because today is today" jajaj. Above you have a link by cosasmolonas.com with eight November calendars, printables and wallpapers, I hope you like them. A hug for all!

Algo de costura y algo de pintura / Some sewing and some painting

Good morning and good Wednesday to all! I’ve been lately doing some quilting (it’s a hobby I love although I have to say that I see more quilts on the internet than the ones I make jajaja). This summer I decided to make something to practising hexies and made a little mug rug making a Grandmother’s flower garden but it didn’t turn out as I wanted and I didn’t feel very comfy sewing it either so I don’t know if I’ll ever try it again, we’ll see. What I have tried and liked how it turned out is my first Dresden plate cushion. I couldn’t show it in the blog before because it was a present for my friend Estrella (here in the blog you have read it with the name of Trelli) and I didn’t want her to see it in the blog before giving it to her. I gave it to her last Friday and she liked it so much that she even sent me photographs of the cushion on her home’s sofa (Thank you Trellitaaaa!). Now I’ll have to make at least two more Dresden plate cushions. My parents have asked me to make a Dresden Plate cushion for them and I also want to make one for my home. So I better get down to business!. I also want to show you the before and after photographs of a star necklace which changed completely after some silver spray painting. Hugs for all!

Donde estuvieres..........¿haz lo que vieres? / When in Rome..........do as Romans do?

Good morning! Who doesn't know the saying "When in Rome do as Romans do"?. It's clear that everybody has their own customs and their own way of doing things but what happens when we go on a trip for example? While the trip is within our country the timetable and meals doesn't usually change much but what happens when we travel abroad? Things change. This summer I have noticed many foreigners in the centre of Valencia (no idea of nationalities, I didn't think it was correct to ask jajaja) not fulfilling the saying heading this post. I'll explain myself: month of July, approx. 4 o'clock in the afternoon, about 35ºC, a suffocating and humid heat, foreigners sightseeing wearing pamela hats, caps, water bottles and suffocated due to the heat. I understand these people come from colder countries where it can be usual to go walking or sightseeing at 4 o'clock in the afternoon but in Valencia during the month of July doing that is, at least, absolutely reckless because they are not used to our heat. This is one of the reasons why hot weather countries "invented" the siesta, because between 14-18 or 19 hours the sun is too hot to go outside. Although I have to say that siesta is only for people who doesn't work or doesn't need to go outside during those hours because the people who work in the mornings and afternoons (like me) we do have to go out during those hours and if we use to do siesta (which is not my case as I have never liked doing siesta, I am an atypical Spanish woman jajaja) we leave it for the weekends when we have spare time.

In Spain our meal times are different from the rest of the European countries (even Italy, which is a country as Mediterranean as Spain has absolutely European meal times). Here, depending on the activities of each person, we usually have breakfast between 7-10, lunch time usually is between 14-15.30 and dinner time is usually between 21-22 (always approximately times). That's why it is very surprising for us to see foreigners having dinner at 19 hours with the sun still shining.

Spanish people, when we go abroad, have a difficult time related with the meal times. In one of my three trips to England I remember having dinner at half past five!!!, at that time Spanish children are having their "merienda" (a snack children usually have between lunch time and dinner time). Or try to have dinner in England, for example, later than seven o'clock in the evening, impossible!. For me the conclusion is clear: when Spanish people travel we do accomplish the "When in Rome do as Romans do" but I'm afraid we are the only ones. What does it usually happen in your countries? Which is your experience?. A hug for all!

Tutorial: un collar con hojas de piel hecho en 20 minutos y una receta / A leather leaf necklace made in 20 minutes and a recipe

Buenos diaaaaas!

Good morniiiiiing! It's friday and the day of the weekly tutorial and today with a little recipe (yes me a recipe jajajaja, those who know me personally know that the kitchen and I are not very good friends but this one is not an easy one but a basic one). Well, today I suggest you a very easy necklace that I saw in www.missiekrissie.blogspot.com that you can make it in no time and wear it tonight, if you like. Hugs!

http://missiekrissie.blogspot.com.es/2010/08/tutorial-making-leather-leaf-necklace.HTML

The recipe is an applesauce that you can use either with sweet or salty food. I use the Golden kind apples because they have a little bit sour taste that I like, the sourer the apples you use the more sugar or sacarine you'll have to add. Ingredients: apples, sugar or sacarine, ground cinnamon, a little bit of water and a medium/big size pot. When I make this applesauce I use 2 or 3 kgs of apples because it usually happens two things: I love it and I'm not the only one who loves it so I run out of it very soon and the apples reduce when cooked. You peel those 2/3 kgs of apples, cut them in small pieces putting them in the pot with a little bit of water, sugar/sacarine (I usually put 5 or 6 sacarine sachets) and ground cinnamon at your own taste. Let it cook slowly and when cooked and still hot stir and stir it to make a caramel colour purée. It tastes wonderful with yogurt, with meat, as a pie filling, etc etc. I hope you like it and please tell me if you make it.
